North Carolina football coach Bill Belichick firmly asserted on Monday that his program maintains a strong atmosphere of rule compliance, despite ongoing investigations into its conduct. He emphasized that accountability lies with everyone involved, stating, "Obviously everybody’s responsible, including me, for doing things properly. And we intend to do that."

The Tar Heels recently celebrated a season-opening victory against TCU in Ireland on August 29. However, during their off week, general manager Michael Lombardi resigned after being placed on paid administrative leave as part of the university's investigation into his conduct. Reports from WRAL revealed that inquiries included questions about Belichick's son, Steve, the team’s defensive coordinator, currently on medical leave, amid allegations related to drug use.

The investigation has expanded to include potential inappropriate relationships unrelated to Lombardi. Previous reports indicated that a human resources complaint linked to a former employee initiated Lombardi's leave.

Belichick faced numerous questions during a 20-minute press conference, with the first 13 minutes dedicated to off-field issues rather than the upcoming match against East Tennessee State. He responded to concerns about his control over the program, stating, "If you’re around here every day, I think you’d see it."

When asked about his job security, he focused on preparing for the ETSU game but later praised his relationship with university officials, noting their support. Dean Stoyer, UNC’s vice chancellor for communications, reaffirmed the university’s backing of Belichick.

Despite the distractions, the Tar Heels managed to secure a narrow victory against TCU, recovering from a previous 34-point loss to the same team. Running back Benjamin Hall expressed confidence, stating, "We could care less about what we see in the headlines or what’s on the news. It’s not going to affect this team."
