George Russell expressed deep frustration over a significant lack of straight-line performance in his Mercedes, which he claims hampers his title bid against teammate Kimi Antonelli. After qualifying fourth for the Belgian Grand Prix on August 27, Russell was 0.508 seconds slower than Antonelli, who secured his sixth pole position in just ten races.

Russell noted that over 75% of his time deficit stemmed from the car's power unit rather than driving errors. He stated, "When I cross the line, you see you're half a second down, it feels pretty rubbish," emphasizing his struggle with straight-line speed.

Throughout the weekend at Spa-Francorchamps, Russell's pace lagged behind Antonelli's, culminating in a practice session where he finished over a second adrift. Despite improving his cornering speed, Russell found himself continuously disadvantaged on the straights, a mystery that Mercedes engineers are urgently investigating.
