Lewis Hamilton dismissed Max Verstappen's call for a penalty during an intense duel at the Austrian Grand Prix, asserting that "you don't drive around the outside of a champion." Verstappen, who finished second at the Red Bull Ring, urged officials to penalize Hamilton for forcing him onto the gravel at Turn 6.

Hamilton faced challenges throughout the race, ultimately finishing fifth after starting third. His Ferrari team struggled with tyre issues and grip problems, leading to a disappointing result, as George Russell secured victory, with Kimi Antonelli rounding out the podium.

Reflecting on the battle with Verstappen, Hamilton stated, "It was great. Good fun. He went off on the outside... I left him just enough room."

Hamilton emphasized the need for Ferrari to enhance their power deployment to compete effectively, labeling the Austrian result a "reality check." He noted that starting on medium tyres was a mistake and suggested that beginning on softs might have led to a better outcome.

The seven-time world champion commented on the car's performance, saying, "The balance was very difficult," and acknowledged that Mercedes had superior power, particularly at the end of the straights.

Charles Leclerc, Hamilton's teammate, expressed dissatisfaction with the car's handling, stating, "It was pretty bad" and pointing out that the set-up did not yield the expected performance. Leclerc's struggles were echoed by Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur, who noted that the team lacked the pace to compete with Mercedes and Verstappen, attributing issues to a poor Friday and ineffective long stints.
