Louise Hoskins has etched her name in history as the oldest gold medallist in Commonwealth Games history, triumphing in the women's para bowls pairs alongside Serena Bonnell. At 76 years old, Hoskins, who was born during the 1950 Auckland Games, expressed her disbelief, saying, "It is incredible. I’m still pinching myself. I never thought I’d ever get [a gold medal] at my age. Get out there and have a go, and never give up."

In a nail-biting final against New Zealand, Hoskins and Bonnell found themselves down 4-1 in the second set. However, Bonnell's timely intervention turned the tide, as she nudged the jack to score three points, leading to a thrilling 6-3, 4-4 victory.

The New Zealand duo of Julie O’Connell and Teri Blackbourn, who entered the final as reigning world champions, had previously defeated Australia in their Glasgow campaign. Yet, Bonnell was confident they could seize the gold, crediting Hoskins with providing crucial support during the match.

Bonnell reflected on her performance, stating, "I had good weight on my first, crap line on my second and my coach took a time out. [Louise] settled me down, supported me and that was enough for me to play the bowl and win the game."

Hoskins, the dominant figure in the match, was thrilled to see Bonnell deliver the winning bowl, recalling, "The moment Serena released it I could see she had it. It was amazing and just heading for the jack."

As for celebrations, Hoskins humorously noted that Bonnell still owed her a few drinks, adding, "Whatever Serena’s going to give me." This remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone in both athletes' careers.
