Outgoing Australia boss Joe Schmidt has made it clear that he has no intention of extending his international coaching career and is not considering a return to Leinster at this time. As he prepares to hand over the reins of the Wallabies to Les Kiss following this month's Nations Championship fixtures against Ireland, France, and Italy, Schmidt emphasized his desire to step back from coaching.

In his six years as head coach of Ireland, Schmidt secured three Six Nations titles, including the coveted 2018 Grand Slam. However, he stated, "I don't really have any ambition to keep coaching as a head coach or anything else... I certainly don't need to be a national head coach."

Before his tenure with Ireland, Schmidt enjoyed success at Leinster, winning back-to-back European Cups. Despite his son's involvement with the province, he humorously remarked, "They've already got my son working for them, so I don't think they need the whole family."

When asked about the possibility of taking over from Leo Cullen, who will leave at the end of the 2026-27 season, Schmidt responded, "Not at the moment." He acknowledged the strength of Leinster, stating, "I think Leinster are a juggernaut... they've been so competitive and so consistent."

Schmidt is focused on his final three games with the Wallabies, aiming to help the team grow. He will travel to Ireland on 10 August to visit his new grandson, looking forward to family time rather than coaching duties.
