Australia's cricket squad has received a significant boost with the return of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Nathan Lyon for their upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh. This marks an important moment for the Baggy Greens, as the trio collectively played only three Tests during the recent home Ashes series, with Hazlewood sidelined since July 2025.

The inclusion of these key players, along with seamers Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland, poses a potential selection dilemma for head coach Andrew McDonald. Notably, Boland impressed during the Ashes, taking 20 wickets in the series, contributing to Australia’s 4-1 victory.

Despite a commendable winter Ashes series where Michael Neser took 15 wickets, he will miss out on selection due to the return of Hazlewood and Cummins.

Additionally, opener Jake Weatherald makes a comeback after an impressive stint with Leicestershire, where he scored 483 runs at an average of 60.37. Weatherald, 31, could potentially open the batting in his hometown for the first Test in Darwin, commencing on August 13.

The squad also includes Beau Webster, providing an all-round option in the middle order, while Cameron Green aims to bounce back after a disappointing Ashes series.

The two-Test series against Bangladesh will serve as vital preparation for Australia before their challenging three-Test tour of South Africa in October.
