Former Australia batter David Warner has pleaded guilty to drink driving following a random breath test in Sydney in April. The plea was anticipated after his lawyer, Bobby Hill, stated that Warner accepted responsibility for his actions, acknowledging his behavior as "foolish" and "reckless."

The incident occurred after Warner consumed three glasses of wine at a friend's apartment on Easter Sunday. The court has set 18 August for sentencing, where Warner faces:

• A minimum disqualification from driving of six months
• A potential fine of up to A$2,200 (approximately $1,500; £1,150)
• A potential prison sentence of up to nine months

Warner, who retired from international cricket in 2024, currently serves as captain for the Pakistan Super League side Karachi Kings and the Sydney Thunder.

Cricket NSW chief executive Lee Germon expressed concern over the allegations, emphasizing the organization's commitment to promoting safe driving. He stated, "At Cricket NSW, we are strong advocates for safe driving, not drink-driving."

During the May hearing, Hill reiterated Warner's acknowledgment of his wrongdoing, saying, "He accepts that was a reckless decision, a foolish decision to get in his car instead of taking an Uber." He further noted that enjoying a glass of wine on such an occasion is not inherently wrong, but highlighted Warner's poor decision-making in this instance.
