The women’s 800m world record, set by Jarmila Kratochvilova on 25 July 1983, is under serious threat as Audrey Werro continues her remarkable ascent in track and field. During the Paris Diamond League, Werro showcased her prowess by clocking the third-fastest 800m time in history at 1:43.80, just shy of the world record.

Werro, a 22-year-old Swiss talent, committed to challenging the record and executed her plan effectively, trailing pacemaker Myrte van der Schoot, who reached halfway in 55.35 seconds. After passing 600m in 1:25.27, she surged ahead, finishing with a time that was 0.18 seconds faster than her previous best against Keely Hodgkinson in Stockholm earlier this month.

Despite falling short of the record, Werro expressed satisfaction with her performance, stating, "It is not the world record but I am still really happy with my time." She emphasized her eagerness to compete against Hodgkinson at the European Championships in Birmingham in August, where the stakes will be high.

Following Werro, Femke Broeders-Bol finished strong with a personal best of 1:55.60, marking a significant transition from her 400m hurdles success to the 800m event.

In other highlights, Cameron Myers dominated the men's 1500m, setting a national record of 3:28.00, while Georgia Hunter Bell won the women's 1500m in a season-best 3:55.63. The night also saw Diamond League records in the men’s and women’s 400m. In a surprising turn, Noah Lyles faced defeat in the men’s 100m, finishing second to Trayvon Bromell, who clocked 9.91 seconds.
