Atletico Madrid has firmly stated there is “zero per cent chance” they will sell Julian Alvarez to Barcelona this summer, declaring themselves “the only victims” in the ongoing transfer saga.

The 26-year-old forward has expressed a desire to join Barcelona, but Arsenal remains vigilant, potentially preparing a late bid for the Argentina international. According to The Independent, Atletico hopes to resolve Alvarez’s future by Friday.

Recently, Alvarez faced boos during a substitute appearance in Atletico’s 1-1 draw with Villarreal on Sunday and reportedly missed training on Wednesday due to “illness.” Despite the turmoil, Atletico has consistently stated they do not wish to sell Alvarez, who is contracted until 2030.

Earlier reports indicated Atletico might consider offers around €150m (£128m), although they doubt Barcelona's financial capacity to meet such a figure. Following Barcelona president Joan Laporta's acknowledgment of interest in Alvarez, Atletico issued a vehement statement accusing both Barcelona and Alvarez’s representatives of spreading “lies and half-truths.”

Atletico asserted, “The only victims in the Julian case are us,” emphasizing the economic and social harm inflicted upon them. They clarified that the situation is not merely about money, but about dignity.

With the transfer deadline approaching, Barcelona’s only bid so far stands at €100m (£86m). Atletico is determined to have Alvarez fit for their upcoming match against Sevilla in LaLiga on Saturday. Meanwhile, Arsenal is exploring options to secure Alvarez, possibly offering another forward, such as Viktor Gyokeres or Gabriel Jesus, as part of their strategy to bolster their attack with the former Manchester City player.
