Aston Villa have successfully negotiated personal terms with Joao Palhinha, but discussions with Bayern Munich have encountered significant challenges. The Premier League side is on the hunt for midfield reinforcements following Amadou Onana’s long-term injury, with Villa manager Unai Emery pinpointing Palhinha as a key target.

Despite the player's eagerness to return to England, the deal remains stalled at the club level. Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg provided an update on the negotiations, stating:

• Aston Villa is offering FC Bayern a loan with an option to buy for Palhinha.
• Bayern has rejected this proposal, insisting on a permanent transfer as their priority.
• Palhinha's personal terms with Aston Villa have been agreed for several days.

Currently, Bayern demands around €25 million for the 31-year-old Portuguese international, while Villa favors an initial loan arrangement. With Villa's Damian Vidagany publicly confirming their interest, the focus now lies on reaching a consensus regarding the fee structure.

Additionally, Newcastle United has also expressed strong interest in Palhinha after losing Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes in this transfer window.

Palhinha's journey has seen him spend the 2025/26 season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, where he regained form and showcased his defensive capabilities, contributing 10 goal involvements. However, Spurs opted not to make the deal permanent, returning him to Munich. With Vincent Kompany considering him surplus to requirements, Palhinha is eager for a fresh start, with Aston Villa being his preferred choice. Both clubs must find common ground before the summer transfer window closes.
