The hosts of next month's Asian Games in Japan face a significant accommodation challenge, urging athletes to "make their own arrangements" due to a shortage of available rooms. The event, scheduled from 19 September to 4 October in the Nagoya and Aichi region, initially expected around 15,000 attendees but now anticipates closer to 17,000 following the inclusion of teqball and padel.

Ichiro Hirosawa, the mayor of Nagoya and acting chairman of the local organizing committee, expressed concerns about accommodating the increased number, citing a "tight budget" as a significant constraint.

Hideaki Omura, president of the organizing committee and Governor of Aichi Prefecture, emphasized that they lack both the "manpower and budget" to support this influx. He stated:

The host city agreement specifies a delegation of 15,000 people. We have not set aside a budget for any more than that. There is simply nowhere for them to stay.

With the absence of a designated athletes' village, organizers have resorted to temporary accommodations. Approximately 4,000 to 5,000 athletes will stay aboard the Italian cruise ship Costa Serena, while an additional 2,000 will inhabit shipping container-style huts. The remainder will be housed in hotels in Tokyo, where key events such as swimming, diving, and equestrian competitions will occur.
