Brighton & Hove Albion finds itself third in the Premier League, defying expectations after a tumultuous summer. Despite losing key players like Danny Welbeck and facing a growing injury list, they have scored more goals than any other team this season (16) and boast the best goal difference (+11).

Last season, Brighton finished eighth and qualified for the Conference League. However, the club underwent significant changes, selling or loaning out 20 players, including notable departures like Carlos Baleba to Manchester United for £70m and Jan Paul van Hecke to Tottenham for £52m.

Injuries to wingers Kaoru Mitoma and Yankuba Minteh, along with forwards Jack Hinshelwood and Georginio Rutter, compounded the challenges for manager Fabian Hürzeler. Yet, Brighton's resilience shone through as they not only advanced in the League Cup but also achieved five clean sheets in eight games.

Pascal Gross, a 35-year-old veteran, has emerged as a crucial player, contributing three goals and three assists. His ability to dictate play and integrate new teammates has been vital. Hürzeler praised Gross, calling him a "social leader" who helps younger players adapt quickly.

New talents like Maxim De Cuyper and Charalampos Kostoulas have stepped up, with De Cuyper scoring three goals this season. Brighton's collective effort has seen nine different players score in the Premier League, showcasing their attacking depth.

Defensively, Brighton continues to press intensely, leading the league in high turnovers and minimizing opposition passes. Goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen highlighted the team's DNA of intensity, which was evident in their dominating performance against Arsenal.

While Gross dismissed title race discussions, he acknowledged that qualifying for the Champions League is within reach. However, upcoming fixtures against Liverpool and Manchester City, along with the challenges of European competition, may test their squad depth further. Despite the upheaval, Brighton's impressive start is a testament to their adaptability and ambition.
