The trial regarding the tragic crash involving Anthony Joshua's driver has unveiled critical details. Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, faces serious charges, including causing death by dangerous driving and driving without a valid national driver's licence. He denies these charges.

The court learned that the incident occurred last December while the group was en route to visit Joshua's father in Ogun State, near Lagos, Nigeria. The passengers, including Joshua's personal trainer Latif Ayodele and strength coach Sina Ghami, were reportedly asleep when Kayode attempted to overtake a moving truck. This maneuver led to the car losing control, resulting in a collision with a parked lorry, which tragically claimed the lives of Ayodele and Ghami.

Another defendant, Abubakar Adamu, 35, who was driving the stationary lorry, denies a charge of obstructing the free flow of traffic.

During the proceedings, Inspector Christopher Ajayi Taiwo noted that by the time he arrived at the crash site, both the damaged Lexus and the stationary lorry had been removed. However, debris and scattered soya beans from the lorry’s load remained.

The only items retrieved from the Lexus were a logbook, painkillers, and an energy drink found near the driver's side. Notably, the police have not yet obtained a statement from Joshua regarding the incident. When questioned about this lapse, Ajayi mentioned that "efforts are ongoing" to contact Joshua, as he lacked his number.

The trial has been adjourned until 10 September. In the wake of the crash, Joshua expressed his grief on social media, honoring his late friends by stating, "I didn't even realize how special they are... 100% it's tough for me, but I know it's even tougher for their parents."
