Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon has made it clear that his commitment to England is unwavering, stating that a potential switch to Scotland was "never a thought" for him. The 23-year-old received his first senior call-up for the upcoming friendly matches against Brazil and Belgium at Wembley, positioning himself for a chance to join Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2024.

Gordon's journey includes a pivotal role in England's triumph at the 2023 European Under-21 Championship, where he was named player of the tournament. Despite having heritage ties to both Scotland and the Republic of Ireland, Gordon remained focused on representing England.

“It was never a thought for me,” Gordon stated, emphasizing his lifelong ambition to don the Three Lions jersey. He expressed, “I’ve been tunnel-visioned on playing for England since I was five or six years old.”

Born in Liverpool, Gordon's passion for football was inspired by local legends like Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard, who he admired as role models during his youth.

Gordon noted the importance of the recent success of the Under-21 team, stating, “The standard of the Under-21s is so high. A lot of them played Premier League week in, week out at some big clubs.” He believes this experience has prepared him for the senior level.

As he anticipates his debut, Gordon feels motivated by Southgate's acknowledgment of his performance, saying, “It gave me just a little boost to carry on knowing I’m not too far away.” With his sights set on making an impact, Gordon aims to bring the same drive that led him to this point in his career.
