Anthony Davis has officially entered a waiting game with the Washington Wizards regarding his potential contract extension. As of August 6, the first day he was eligible to sign an extension, both parties have decided to hold off on any substantial discussions until the start of the season, according to a report from The Athletic.

Davis, who was acquired by the Wizards during the 2026 trade deadline from the Dallas Mavericks, has yet to play a game for his new team. Last season, he appeared in 20 games for the Mavericks, averaging 20.4 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. The Wizards managed to secure Davis at a relatively low cost, trading away a 30th overall pick and a top-20 protected first-rounder.

Speculation surrounding Davis's future intensified when LeBron James entered free agency in July, with rumors suggesting a possible reunion with his former teammate from the Los Angeles Lakers. Although the Golden State Warriors emerged as the frontrunners in these discussions, other teams could also be in the mix.

Despite the swirling trade rumors, both the Wizards and Davis's representatives have not indicated any desire to pursue a trade this summer. Meanwhile, the Wizards made a significant financial move by signing Trae Young to a four-year, $212 million contract after acquiring him in January. Young has played just five games with Washington to date.
