Andy Gray is set to return to UK commentary for the first time since his controversial sacking from Sky Sports due to sexist comments. The former Everton player, who last worked for beIN Sports in Qatar, has been making headlines since he and his longtime colleague Richard Keys created a podcast titled Keys & Gray Unleashed after their beIN Sports contract expired.

Gray’s return to commentary will occur during TalkSport’s coverage of this season’s Champions League. He will co-commentate alongside Jim Proudfoot for Liverpool’s group stage opener against Atletico Madrid at Anfield on Wednesday.

In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Gray expressed his desire to return to the airwaves, stating, “Not television, maybe, but radio. Just to see what it feels like again. I would like that.”

The duo of Gray and Keys was a prominent feature in Sky Sports coverage during the early 2000s but faced backlash after making derogatory remarks about assistant referee Sian Massey-Ellis in 2011. Notable quotes from that incident include Keys saying, “Somebody better get down there and explain offside to her,” to which Gray replied, “Can you believe that? Female linesman.” Their comments led to significant scrutiny, culminating in Gray’s firing following a lewd remark to presenter Charlotte Jackson.

Both men have since returned to the UK, aiming to revive their careers amidst ongoing discussions about their past conduct.
