Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola expressed that finishing in a European place would be the "best way" to conclude his tenure at the club. Iraola, who took over in 2023 after Gary O'Neil, is set to depart this summer as his contract expires.

As the Premier League season nears its end, with only two matches remaining, Bournemouth currently sits sixth, occupying a Europa League spot. They are just four points shy of a Champions League position, while the possibility of entering the Conference League remains. Notably, securing sixth might also allow the Cherries to qualify for the Champions League if Aston Villa defeats Freiburg in the Europa League final.

Iraola remarked, "It would be the best way to finish these amazing three seasons."

He highlighted the challenges faced this season, noting significant changes to the team and a shift in playing style compared to the previous year.

The Cherries, who have never participated in European competition in their 127-year history, face a crucial match against title-chasing Manchester City on Tuesday at 19:30 BST, followed by a trip to Nottingham Forest on Sunday at 16:00 BST. To secure European football, they need just one point from their final two matches.

Iraola acknowledged the fine line between being close to achieving their goal and actually securing it, stating, "We are really close, but there is a big difference between being really close and getting it and grabbing it."

Currently, Bournemouth is on an impressive 16-match unbeaten streak in the league, the longest of any team this season, with their last loss occurring against Arsenal on January 3.
