Elliot Anderson expressed that the sting of England’s World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina still lingers, yet he aims to channel the confidence gained from his impressive tournament performances into his new journey at Manchester City.

Anderson is poised to make his debut against Arsenal in the Community Shield this Sunday at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

“It’s really hard,” Anderson reflected on the loss. “I’m still sort of struggling with that. There are highs and lows in football. It’s about how you bounce back.”

He emphasized the importance of moving forward, stating, “I take huge confidence knowing I can perform on a World Cup stage. That was a really good test for me.”

At just 23 years old, Anderson is set to play a pivotal role in City’s midfield, especially with Barcelona pursuing Rodri. The La Liga giants recently made a £51m bid for the 30-year-old, potentially opening up a significant opportunity for Anderson to step into the spotlight.

When asked about his playing style compared to Rodri, Anderson responded, “I think so. I can do various things within midfield and I’ll see where I get used.”

He joined City from Nottingham Forest for a record £116m fee, a move that had long been anticipated during Pep Guardiola's tenure. Although he has yet to play under new head coach Enzo Maresca, he remains committed to proving himself at one of the world’s top clubs.

Anderson concluded by sharing his admiration for Kevin De Bruyne, stating, “To be here at the same club and playing where he played is special.”
