British sprinter Amy Hunt marked a historic milestone by becoming the first athlete to secure four gold medals in a single European Championships. The 24-year-old, who previously won silver in the 200m, achieved this remarkable feat in the inaugural mixed 4x100m relay final held at the Alexander Stadium on Sunday.

Hunt's victory capped off an extraordinary day for Team GB, which celebrated a total of six medals. Notably, Dina Asher-Smith solidified her place in history by earning her 11th medal, making her the most decorated female athlete in European Athletics Championships history.

The day's highlights included:

• Matt Hudson-Smith winning silver in the men’s 4x400m relay, bringing his total to nine medals, making him the most decorated male athlete in the Championships' history.
• Georgia Hunter Bell clinching gold in the 1500m final.

Expressing her joy, Hunt stated, “Oh my gosh, (I feel) just sensational! It surpassed my expectations for myself at this champs... Seven races in seven days is no easy feat.”

The mixed 4x100m relay, debuting at these championships, allowed Hunt to aim for multiple titles on home soil after her sprint double and the women's 4x100m gold.

Asher-Smith also reflected on her achievements, stating, “It hasn’t sunk in at all... I’d like an Olympic gold, but that’s kind of the only thing that’s on my bucket list.”

The women's 4x400m relay team, consisting of Yemi Mary-John, Lina Nielsen, Nicole Yeargin, and Emily Newnham, earned silver, while the men's team, featuring Hudson-Smith, finished just behind Italy in a nail-biting finale. Additionally, Jazmin Sawyers secured silver in the long jump, and Abbie Donnelly made history as the first British woman to win a marathon medal at the European Championships, taking home bronze.
