Summary

Alex Lozowski, the Sale centre, expressed his feelings about leaving Saracens after a decade, calling the experience "sad" and "bewildering." The 33-year-old England international found himself sidelined during his farewell season, appearing in only two Premiership matches and making just a brief 10-minute appearance in the Champions Cup since February.

Lozowski remarked, "It was a sad ending for everyone I suppose. They finished fifth, which is not where they wanted to be, and I wasn't part of it at all. No-one really got what they wanted. It was probably just a bit of a damp squib at the end of the season really, which was a shame. It was bewildering and peculiar to me."

He acknowledged that the club's decisions were beyond his control, stating, "They have their decisions and their reasons and, even though you can disagree with them as strongly as you like, it doesn't really count for much."

Despite his limited playtime, Lozowski's performance in the 2024-25 season had previously earned him spots in the England squad for both the autumn internationals and the Six Nations. He was overlooked in favor of teammates Olly Hartley and Nick Tomkins during Saracens' crucial matches, where the team suffered a setback against Exeter in a semi-final shootout.

Reflecting on his journey, he shared, "Sport teaches you all kinds of different lessons and now it's like a distant memory, but at the time it sort of stings. I’ve played 198 games, could have got a couple more in there and had a little run to make it to the top four? That’s what I was thinking at the time, but it doesn’t always work out the way you want."

As he prepares to face his former club with Sale, alongside new teammate Joe Marchant, Lozowski is motivated to prove his worth and contribute positively to his new team's ambitions. "I know Sale wanted me to come here and add value, which meant a lot to me. So now it's time to do that."
