Adam Ramsay-Peaty showcased his resilience by powering through to the semi-finals of the men’s 100 metres breaststroke at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The heat faced an unexpected interruption when a lane divider broke just as Ramsay-Peaty was about to dive in, necessitating an official to enter the pool to fix it.

Despite the bizarre delay, Ramsay-Peaty clocked the fastest time of the morning at 59.46 seconds. He was joined in the under-a-minute club by Australia’s Sam Williamson and Filip Nowacki of Jersey.

This marks Ramsay-Peaty's fourth appearance at the Commonwealth Games, where he first made headlines at just 19 years old in 2014. Since then, he has become a prominent figure in the media, particularly after marrying Holly Ramsay, daughter of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, in December last year. However, he also faced personal challenges, including a strained relationship with much of his family.

Ramsay-Peaty called these Games a "full circle moment" as he aims to reignite his swimming career. After winning a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, he refocused after a difficult 2023, where he withdrew from several events to prioritize his mental health.

His journey in the 100m event has been remarkable, starting with his win in 2014. However, he faced a significant setback in Birmingham four years ago, finishing in a surprising fourth place.

As he prepares for his semi-final on Friday evening, Ramsay-Peaty expressed confidence, stating, "Job done, really. We’ve got a busy two weeks coming up, so we’re reserving energy where we can." He reflected on his growth, noting, "Last time I was here, I was very young. We barely had any world records to my name, or known world records to my name, so it’s been a very long journey."
