AC Milan has officially parted ways with head coach Massimiliano Allegri following a dismal season that saw the club fail to qualify for the Champions League. The club's management labeled the season an "unequivocal failure" after the team dropped from third to fifth place in Serie A.

In a critical match on the final day, AC Milan suffered a 2-1 defeat against Cagliari, which cemented their absence from Europe’s elite competition for the second consecutive year. This outcome allows Inter Milan, Napoli, Roma, and Como—the latter making their debut in the Champions League—to represent Italy next season, while AC Milan will join Juventus in the Europa League.

A statement from RedBird Capital, the American investment group that acquired AC Milan in 2022, noted:

For the majority of this season, we were in the top two positions in Serie A, with a credible shot at competing for the Scudetto. The final stretch was completely inconsistent with the performance up to that point, with last night's disappointing loss in the final game turning the season into an unequivocal failure. It is now time for change and a comprehensive reorganization of football operations.

Additionally, key figures including chief executive Giorgio Furlani, sporting director Igli Tare, and technical director Geoffrey Moncada have also departed from the club.

Allegri, 58, returned to lead the Rossoneri in May 2022, having previously managed the team from 2010 to 2014, during which he won the league title in 2010-11 and the Italian Super Cup the following season.
