Scottie Scheffler made a remarkable comeback at the 3M Open after struggling with his putting at last week's Open, shooting a six-under par 65 on Thursday. This puts him three shots behind the overnight leader, Ben Kohles, who finished his round with an impressive eagle on the last hole, scoring 62.

In addition to Kohles, Emiliano Grillo, Jackson Koivun, and Gary Woodland all sit one stroke ahead of Scheffler, tied at seven under par.

Scheffler, the world’s number one golfer, quickly shifted focus after a tied-fourth finish at Royal Birkdale on Sunday. He started his first round at TPC Twin Cities on the back nine, making a birdie on the 12th hole and another on the 18th, despite missing the green with his approach.

After gaining momentum, Scheffler made birdies on the first, fourth, sixth, and seventh holes, showcasing his improved putting skills. He ranked second in the field for strokes gained putting, despite narrowly missing an eagle on the sixth and a 15-foot birdie putt on the 14th.

He reflected on his performance, stating, "Golf's funny. Some days you're hitting your lines, and other days it feels like you're doing the same thing, and it kind of goes around the hole."

Meanwhile, Jordan Smith returned to the PGA Tour after his tied-18th finish at Royal Birkdale but faced challenges, including a bogey from a three-putt on the fifth hole and a double bogey on the seventh after hitting into a water hazard. Smith managed to recover on his back nine, finishing at level par with birdies on holes 13 and 17.
