Red Bull Dismisses Claims of Klopp’s Job Threat as 'Total Nonsense'

Red Bull has categorically rejected reports that Jürgen Klopp's position as head of global soccer is in jeopardy, labeling these claims as "nonsense". Klopp, who took on this prominent role in January 2025, manages Red Bull’s extensive portfolio of clubs, which includes RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg, and the New York Red Bulls. The speculation arose from the Salzburger Nachrichten on Wednesday, suggesting that Klopp's future was uncertain due to a perceived stagnation in development across the clubs since his appointment. In response, Oliver Mintzlaff, Red Bull’s CEO of corporate projects and investments, firmly denied these assertions on Thursday. He stated, "This is total nonsense and completely unfounded. On the contrary, we are extremely satisfied with Jürgen Klopp’s work." Mintzlaff highlighted Klopp’s active role, noting he maintains "constant contact" with coaches and sporting directors across the Red Bull network. He emphasized, "We are convinced that he is the right man for this job. That’s where we are putting our full focus and our energy." When Klopp's position was announced in 2024, he expressed that he did not anticipate a return to coaching "for the time being," seeing his role mainly as an adviser to various Red Bull-backed clubs. Despite some challenges faced by the clubs upon his arrival, positive trends are emerging. Notably: RB Leipzig improved from seventh to fifth place in the Bundesliga under coach Ole Werner. Red Bull Salzburg currently leads the Austrian league after a mixed performance last year. The New York Red Bulls experienced a significant setback, missing the playoffs in 2025, ending a streak of 15 consecutive postseason appearances.
