Rashee Rice Escapes NFL Punishment Following Domestic Abuse Investigation

The NFL concluded on Friday that Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice will not face any disciplinary action after an investigation into allegations made by his former girlfriend, Dacoda Jones. The league stated that Rice has not violated its personal conduct policy. In a statement, Rice's attorney Sean Lindsey expressed gratitude for the thorough investigation and highlighted Rice's eagerness for the upcoming 2026-27 NFL season. The allegations stem from a lawsuit filed by Jones on February 16, accusing Rice of physical assault over several months from December 2023 to July 2025. The lawsuit, filed in Dallas County District Court, seeks $1 million in damages and includes claims of severe injuries caused by Rice, including an incident in December 2023 where he allegedly strangled her. Jones detailed a pattern of abuse, including: Physical assaults during her pregnancy Throwing objects and destroying property Locking her out of their home at night In response, Rice's legal team referenced a sworn affidavit from October 9, 2025, in which Jones stated, "Mr. Rice and I had a verbal argument, but he did not punch me." The Chiefs acknowledged the situation but refrained from commenting on the NFL's decision. Jones initially did not name Rice in her January allegations but later shared images of injuries on social media, expressing her frustration over years of abuse and her struggle for independence and safety for herself and her children. Rice's off-field issues have been a recurring theme, including a six-game suspension in 2025 for a prior traffic incident that resulted in felony charges. As this investigation concludes, Rice looks to focus on his performance in the upcoming season.
