Lawrence Shankland Joins Rangers as Striker Prepares for World Cup Journey

Rangers have officially signed Lawrence Shankland from Scottish Premiership rivals Hearts. The 30-year-old striker has inked an initial two-year contract at Ibrox lasting until the summer of 2028, with an option for an additional year. Last season, Shankland netted 20 goals for Hearts, including 16 in the league, as they narrowly missed out on the league title. His departure from Tynecastle Park will be finalized on June 15, coinciding with the opening of the transfer window. While the transfer fee remains undisclosed, reports suggest Rangers capitalized on a clause from Shankland's previous contract. Following this transfer, the Scotland international will travel to the USA for the World Cup before rejoining the Rangers squad led by head coach Danny Röhl later this summer. Expressing his excitement, Shankland stated, "I am delighted to be here... Rangers is my boyhood club and it has always been a dream to play here." Röhl added, "We are delighted to have Lawrence join Rangers... his goalscoring record in Scotland speaks for itself." Shankland’s journey to Rangers is notable, starting at Queen's Park and progressing through various clubs, including Aberdeen, Ayr United, and Dundee United. His impressive performance at Hearts, where he scored 88 goals in 171 appearances, has set high expectations for his role at Rangers, especially following the departure of former captain James Tavernier. As Rangers look to strengthen their squad, they are also interested in players like Luke Graham from Dundee and Dan Neil from Sunderland. Meanwhile, Hearts face the challenge of replacing Shankland, who was a key player and leader at the club. The upcoming season promises to be pivotal for both clubs as they navigate these changes.
