Zachariah Branch Faces Arrest After Spring Game Ahead of NFL Draft
Zachariah Branch, the former Georgia wide receiver, was arrested early Sunday morning following the Bulldogs' spring game at Sanford Stadium. He faces two misdemeanor charges: obstructing public sidewalks/streets and obstruction of a law enforcement official, according to the Athens Clarke County Arrest log. Branch was booked at 1:26 a.m. local time and released just two hours later on bonds totaling $39. The incident occurred while he was in Athens, where he had participated in the spring game. In his single season with the Bulldogs, Branch set a program record with 81 catches for 811 yards and six touchdowns. The former five-star recruit transferred from USC to Georgia last offseason, where he quickly became a key player. Notably, his brother, Zion, is also a safety at Georgia. As the 2026 NFL Draft approaches, Branch aims to solidify his position after posting an impressive 4.35 time in the 40-yard dash at the combine. Despite the competitive landscape at his position, he is projected to be a mid to late-round pick, largely due to his smaller stature at 5-foot-9, 177 pounds. Branch excelled in the slot, demonstrating significant ability after the catch, amassing 636 yards as an All-SEC performer. His role at Georgia often involved quick receptions, reflecting a limited route tree but effective use in screen and swing plays. Georgia coach Kirby Smart praised Branch's dedication, stating, "He meant a lot to learn our system and learn our terminology. He's a football junkie... He loves football, and that's one of the number one qualities for being a good pro." Branch's football journey began at USC under Lincoln Riley, where he initially made his mark on special teams and as a gadget player, returning 24 kickoffs for 442 yards and 16 punts for 332 yards with two touchdowns. After a productive year in 2024 with 47 receptions for 503 yards, he transferred to Georgia, setting the stage for his NFL aspirations.
