Wrexham Faces Resurgent Southampton in Crucial Championship Clash

Phil Parkinson emphasizes the significance of Wrexham's Championship match against play-off rivals Southampton on Tuesday at 20:00 BST, describing it as having a "special" feel due to the Saints' recent resurgence. The Red Dragons enter this contest at Stok Cae Ras, positioned one place and one point above Southampton, who hold a game in hand. After stunning Arsenal in the FA Cup quarter-finals, Tonda Eckert's squad arrives in north Wales unbeaten in 15 matches across all competitions. Parkinson stated, "It's a massive game for us... at this stage of the season it's hard to say one game is harder than the next because everybody's fighting for something." He reflected on his own history with Southampton, noting the match's added significance. Wrexham recently climbed above Southampton in the table following a 2-2 draw against West Bromwich Albion on Friday. With only six regular season games remaining, Parkinson believes the club's fate is in their hands, saying, "Football is about making the most of every season... we've got an opportunity to finish it well." He added, "When you get into this position, it's important... that we produce good performances." The first encounter this season saw Wrexham nearly secure an upset at St Mary's Stadium, with Josh Windass scoring first only to witness Ryan Manning and Jack Stephens turn the tide for the Saints. Despite a rocky start under former coach Will Still, Southampton has rebounded under Eckert, winning nine of their last 12 league fixtures. Lewis O'Brien, who scored Wrexham's second goal against West Brom, noted the team's growth since their last meeting, stating, "We were a pretty new team... We've now got three games at home and three away and hopefully we can pick up as many points as we can."
