Surrey, Essex, and The Blaze Shine in Women's T20 Blast Opener
Reigning champions Surrey kicked off their Women's T20 Blast title defense with a thrilling six-wicket victory against Lancashire Thunder on the opening day. Chasing a competitive target of 186, Surrey's captain Bryony Smith led the charge with an explosive 71 off 35 balls, while Eve Jones contributed 56. Former Australia captain Meg Lanning added 40 off 22 balls for Lancashire, who finished at 185-7. In another match, Essex secured a convincing seven-wicket win over Warwickshire Bears. Yorkshire had previously set a challenging target of 180, but the Blaze's strong performance ensured they clinched victory with three balls left. In a dramatic finish, Somerset and Hampshire Hawks ended their match in a tie. Somerset's Ella McCaughan scored 69 off 46 balls, guiding her team to 160. Despite Hampshire's promising start, a spirited bowling performance led by Niamh Holland (4-21) helped Somerset level the scores in an electrifying conclusion.
