William Ellard Shatters S14 100m Freestyle World Record at GB Championships

Paralympic champion William Ellard has made history by setting a new world record in the S14 mixed class 100m freestyle final at the Aquatics GB Swimming Championships held in London. Ellard clinched the gold medal with an impressive time of 50.41 seconds, breaking the previous record by 0.49 seconds, which was held by Arthur Xavier Ribeiro from Brazil. At just 20 years old, Ellard has already established himself as a formidable swimmer, having previously won gold in the S14 200m freestyle and the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay at the 2024 Paralympics. His latest achievement secures his spot at the European Championships in Paris this summer. When asked about his goal of breaking the world record, Ellard stated, "It was the aim. It would be nice to go 49 [seconds] one day but it hurt for the last 15 metres, I just had to put my head down." In addition to Ellard's impressive feat, Angharad Evans also made waves by breaking the British 200m breaststroke record, finishing with a time of 2:19.70. These performances highlight a remarkable day for British swimming, showcasing the talent and determination of its athletes.
