West Ham Eyes £70m Windfall as PSG Pursues Mateus Fernandes This Summer

West Ham United could potentially secure up to £70m by transferring Mateus Fernandes to Paris Saint-Germain this summer, as reported by a transfer insider. Following their relegation from the Premier League, the club anticipates several high-profile exits, including players like Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville. The Portuguese midfielder, aged 21, has caught the attention of Manchester United as well, but he may face stiff competition from PSG. Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness commented on the situation during Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, stating, "With an auction, it could get as high as £70m, so that’s where I think the market’s going to be." Wyness added that PSG would be an attractive destination for Fernandes, although he might also remain in the Premier League if a club steps up with the requisite funds. He expects that negotiations for a deal with PSG are likely already underway. Despite West Ham’s relegation, manager Nuno Espirito Santo has shown confidence in Fernandes, describing his season as "fantastic." The club originally acquired him from Southampton for just over £40m, and with his rising stock, West Ham is well-positioned to profit significantly from his sale. Additionally, West Ham seems proactive in preparing for the potential sale of Fernandes, reportedly reaching an "agreement in principle" for Metz midfielder Alpha Toure, who could be signed for around £6m. While Fernandes' departure appears likely, the club is set to command a substantial fee if PSG's interest proves irresistible.
