Jim Furyk Advocates for Tiger Woods' Role in 2027 Ryder Cup Despite Recent Challenges

Jim Furyk expressed his desire for golf legend Tiger Woods to join his Ryder Cup team for the 2027 contest at Adare Manor, despite Woods currently undergoing treatment in Switzerland after a recent incident. Furyk, who will captain the United States team for the second time following their significant loss at Le Golf National in 2018, has previously worked alongside Woods as a vice-captain. Recently, Woods faced charges for driving under the influence (DUI) after a car crash near his Florida home in March. During the incident, police discovered prescription opioid hydrocodone pills in Woods' possession, which he uses for pain management following multiple surgeries. Furyk revealed he has refrained from contacting Woods out of respect for his recovery process but intends to reach out in the future regarding a potential role in next year’s Ryder Cup. He stated, "We haven’t spoken yet. I think, out of kind of courtesy for him and his family and I know maybe a road to health, I haven’t reached out but I will. Definitely. We’ll see where that role may fall." Reflecting on their previous collaborations, Furyk praised Woods, saying, "I enjoyed serving – I use that word serving – as a vice-captain with him a number of times. I think he brought a lot to the team room and a lot of knowledge and a lot of experience." The prospect of Woods’ return, even in an advisory role, excites Furyk as he aims to reclaim the Ryder Cup, a trophy that has slipped from the US team's grasp in recent years, especially after Europe won the last two editions, with the next competition taking place in Ireland.
