Ulster Aims for URC Playoffs, Prepares for Stormers Challenge After Cup Success

Ulster maintains its focus after reaching the European Challenge Cup final, emphasizing that they won't rest on their recent success. Forwards coach Jimmy Duffy highlighted the need for the team to stay sharp as they prepare to face the Stormers, who currently lead the United Rugby Championship (URC). After defeating Exeter Chiefs 29-12 in the semi-finals, this marks Ulster’s first European final since the 2012 Champions Cup. However, Duffy insists that the squad is fully committed to achieving a top-eight finish in the URC, ensuring their place in the playoffs. Duffy stated, "We enjoyed it, I suppose, for what it was... but today we're all on to Stormers." He cautioned against complacency, noting the hectic schedule ahead with crucial matches against both the Stormers and the Glasgow Warriors within the next ten days. Despite their European success, Ulster has struggled recently in the URC, suffering back-to-back defeats against Leinster and Munster. The team faces additional challenges with injuries to key players such as Stuart McCloskey, Jacob Stockdale, and David McCann. Duffy acknowledged the strength of the Stormers, who recently scored 48 points against Glasgow. He remarked, "They're top of the league for very good reason... it focuses the mind very quickly when you look at the quality of the opposition." As they gear up for the match at Affidea Stadium on Friday at 19:45 BST, Ulster aims to ensure their players are both physically and mentally prepared for the significant challenge ahead.
