Ulster Rugby Welcomes Versatile Fly-Half Jamie Benson Ahead of 2026-27 Season

Ulster Rugby has officially announced the signing of Jamie Benson on a two-year deal, bolstering their squad ahead of the 2026-27 season. The 23-year-old, who can play as a fly-half, centre, or full-back, joins from Premiership club Harlequins, where he honed his skills in the academy system. Benson, who is Irish-qualified through family ties in Belfast, has represented England at both U18 and U20 levels, and was recently included in a wider England A squad. His senior debut for Harlequins came in 2021, where he notably kicked a last-minute conversion against Northampton Saints in the Premiership Cup. His Premiership debut occurred in 2024, where he delivered a standout performance against Saracens. This season, he scored his first Champions Cup try during a victory over Bayonne. "It feels like a fantastic time to be joining Ulster Rugby," said Benson. "The team are playing an entertaining brand of rugby, which I am excited to be a part of. I have strong family connections to the province through my mum, who grew up in Belfast, and I'm looking forward to getting started." Rory Best, Ulster's general manager, expressed enthusiasm about Benson's addition, noting it will increase competition within the squad. "We are delighted to be signing a player of Jamie's quality as we build our squad ahead of next season," Best commented. "He has shown a lot of potential for Harlequins, performing well when given the opportunity." Benson will be the fourth new signing for Ulster, joining Eli Snyman, Ben Donnell, and Matt Devine in enhancing the team's roster.
