Trevon Diggs Becomes Free Agent After Short Stint with Packers

For the first time in his career, Trevon Diggs is a free agent following his release by the Green Bay Packers on Tuesday, after being with the team for less than a month. A former All-Pro selection and two-time Pro Bowler, Diggs was claimed off waivers by the Packers late in the regular season after his release from the Dallas Cowboys, where he spent over five seasons. During his brief tenure with the Packers, he recorded three tackles in two games, including a brief appearance in the 31-27 loss to the Chicago Bears in the NFC wild card round. At just 27 years old, Diggs had a promising start to his career, notably leading the NFL with 11 interceptions in 2021, his second season. This early success led the Cowboys to award him a lucrative five-year, $97 million contract heading into the 2023 season. However, a knee injury sustained in practice hampered his performance, resulting in him missing all but two games that season. He managed to play in 11 games in 2024 but had to sit out the final four games after undergoing surgery on the same knee. This year, he was placed on injured reserve due to lingering concussion symptoms, playing in only eight games for the Cowboys before being released on December 30. The Packers claimed him the next day, but his time with them was short-lived.
