Tottenham on the Verge of Signing Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth

Tottenham Hotspur is nearing a deal to sign Marcos Senesi, the Bournemouth defender, on a free transfer. While personal terms are still being negotiated, the agreement for the 29-year-old is progressing towards completion. This move coincides with Spurs' pursuit of Andy Robertson, the Scotland full-back who recently left Liverpool. Bournemouth decided to move on from Senesi after he declined their third contract offer in December, prompting discussions with several international clubs. However, the three-cap Argentina international appears set to remain in the Premier League, unless there is a sudden change of plans. During the past season, Senesi was a key player for Bournemouth, participating in all but one of their league matches as they achieved a remarkable sixth-place finish, securing European qualification for the first time in the club's history. Over four years, he made 128 appearances for Bournemouth after transferring from Feyenoord in 2022. On the other hand, Tottenham faced a challenging season, finishing 17th in the Premier League before improving under head coach Roberto de Zerbi, who was appointed in March, helping the team narrowly avoid relegation to the Championship. In a recent statement to BBC Sport, Spurs chief executive Vinai Venkatesham emphasized the need for squad improvement: "The squad needs work and the squad hasn't got the right balance. We need experience and leadership and also that kind of physical robustness to play in the most demanding league that exists. We need to strengthen the club over multiple transfer windows but this transfer window, in particular, is going to be critical."
