Steve Kerr Contemplates Future with Warriors After Season-Ending Loss

Steve Kerr, the architect behind the Golden State Warriors' recent success, faces uncertainty about his coaching future following the team's season-ending loss to the Phoenix Suns. Having led the franchise since 2014, Kerr has secured four championships and six Finals appearances, but now reflects on what lies ahead. In a post-game press conference, Kerr revealed, "My plan is to take a little time. I don't know, take a week or two. Eventually, sit down with [owner] Joe Lacob and [general manager] Mike Dunleavy. We've always had a great partnership and collaboration, and just see where they are, and I'll tell them where I am, and we'll talk about what's next for the Warriors." Kerr's current contract, a two-year, $35 million extension signed in 2024, has expired, leaving him technically a coaching free agent. Despite this, he emphasized that the Warriors are the only team he would consider coaching next season. Earlier this season, he stated, "I will never leave Steph Curry," highlighting his commitment to the star player, who is under contract only through next season. Draymond Green, another cornerstone of the Warriors' dynasty, confirmed his desire to return next season, stating, "I hope I've done enough to still be here." The Warriors face a pivotal offseason, with key figures from their dynasty departing, including executive Jerry West and Kevin Durant. With Klay Thompson now signed with the Dallas Mavericks, the franchise must navigate a transition period as the Curry era begins to fade.
