Steelers Eye Miami QB Carson Beck in 2026 Draft Amid Quarterback Uncertainty

Pittsburgh prepares to host the NFL Draft for the first time, starting with Round 1 on Thursday. As the Steelers look to fill a potential gap at quarterback, taking one with their first pick, currently at No. 21, seems unlikely at odds of +1800. However, they are among the frontrunners to draft Carson Beck, the Miami QB, later in the draft. Currently, most teams have their 2026 starting quarterback sorted out, with the Raiders expected to select Fernando Mendoza, the Heisman winner, at No. 1 overall. The Steelers, however, might still be in search of a starter, largely due to the indecision of Aaron Rodgers, whose retirement plans remain unknown. Patrick Queen, a linebacker for the Steelers, suggested the odds of Rodgers' return are 50-50. The Steelers have Mason Rudolph and Will Howard, a sixth-round pick from Ohio State, leading their quarterback depth chart. DraftKings odds suggest the team is more likely to address other needs, listing positions like offensive lineman, receiver, and safety ahead of quarterback. Ty Simpson, considered the No. 2 QB prospect, may still be available at 24.5 draft position, with odds of the Steelers drafting him at +1600. Though they last selected a QB in the first round with Kenny Pickett in 2022, the focus may shift to Beck, who showed promise with the Canes last season but has faced criticism for decision-making. The Dolphins are favored at +300 to select Beck, with the Steelers close behind at +330. With 12 picks in total, including No. 53 and three in the third round, the Steelers are well-positioned to target Beck or other quarterbacks in later rounds. Their needs also include receiver, offensive line, and safety, with potential picks like Jordyn Tyson and Omar Cooper Jr. being considered for their first-round selection.
