Sam Darnold Reflects on Super Bowl Victory: 'Belief Made All the Difference'

Sam Darnold has emerged as one of the most unique success stories among Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks. Drafted as the No. 3 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Darnold faced challenges on struggling New York Jets teams before a brief stint with the Carolina Panthers. His career took a significant turn when he became a Pro Bowler with the Minnesota Vikings. However, after late-season difficulties, the Vikings released him, leading Darnold to sign a multi-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks. Darnold's impact was immediate, culminating in a Pro Bowl season and ultimately, the Seahawks' second Super Bowl victory. During the victory parade on Wednesday, he expressed gratitude towards those who believed in him. "A lot of people didn't believe in me, but it didn't matter because the ones that are close believed in me... I appreciate you all so much," Darnold stated, acknowledging team owner Jody Allen, general manager John Schneider, and coach Mike Macdonald, as well as his teammates. Throughout the season, Darnold received strong support from his teammates, exemplified by linebacker Ernest Jones IV, who passionately defended him during the parade. Darnold played a crucial role in Seattle's success, notably out-dueling league MVP Matthew Stafford in a pivotal Week 16 game against the Los Angeles Rams and excelling in the NFC title game. In the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots, he showcased his skills despite a tough defense, completing key passes that led to Jason Myers' record-setting five field goals. As Darnold's performance improved, especially with Kenneth Walker III gaining momentum, he orchestrated six scoring drives, including a significant 16-yard touchdown pass to AJ Barner. With a strong core of players, the Seahawks are optimistic about their future competitiveness.
