Russell Wilson Embraces Journey as NFL Free Agency Approaches

Russell Wilson, the 10-time Pro Bowler, acknowledges that his days as a starting quarterback may be numbered, yet he remains determined to continue his career. Recently benched by the New York Giants in favor of rookie Jaxson Dart, Wilson has now been demoted to third string. At 37 years old, Wilson's statistics reflect a challenging season: 831 yards passing, three touchdowns, and three interceptions over three starts and six appearances. As NFL free agency looms on March 11 at 4 p.m. ET, with negotiations beginning earlier, Wilson expressed his desire to extend his career during an interview on the Bussin' with the Boys podcast. He stated, "I wanna play a few more years for sure. I think for me, I've always had the vision of getting to 40, at least." Wilson emphasized the evolution of the game, noting how rules have changed to protect quarterbacks, allowing them to play longer. "I feel healthy. I feel great. But I think more than anything else is, do you love the game? Do you love studying? Do you love the passion for it all?" he said, highlighting his obsession with the process and journey of the sport. With several talented free agent quarterbacks expected to sign, including Aaron Rodgers, Malik Willis, and Kyler Murray, Wilson faces stiff competition. He also contends with veterans like Kirk Cousins, Joe Flacco, and Marcus Mariota for potential landing spots. Last season, Wilson played on a one-year, $10.5 million deal, heavily reliant on performance incentives. Given the competitive landscape and the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft, the cost for Wilson's services is likely to decrease.
