Nigel Mansell Praises Reinvigorated Lewis Hamilton After Strong Start to 2026 Season

Former Formula 1 world champion Nigel Mansell has stated that Lewis Hamilton appears to be "reinvigorated" this season. Hamilton marked a significant comeback by finishing third at the Chinese Grand Prix, ending a 16-month podium drought since joining Ferrari in 2025. The 41-year-old driver has shown improved performance against teammate Charles Leclerc, contrasting with his struggles from the previous season. Mansell noted that the new regulations seem to align well with Hamilton's driving style, and he suggested that the seven-time world champion could potentially secure a race win this year. Mansell commented, "Lewis is fired up again. Ferrari has done a fabulous job over the winter. They're there or thereabouts, while Mercedes and McLaren remain strong competitors." Reflecting on his recent performance, Hamilton mentioned, "I prepared my mind and body better than ever," contributing to his resurgence. He acknowledged the challenges faced last year with a car that did not suit his style, stating, "When I joined Ferrari, it was an evolution of the previous year's car, not built for me." Hamilton emphasized the importance of collaboration with engineers to implement changes for this year’s car, which he feels has improved significantly based on his feedback. In other news, Mansell discussed the ongoing F1 Drivers' Championship, highlighting that it could evolve into a two-horse race if Mercedes maintains its competitive edge. He urged George Russell to assert his authority amidst rising star Kimi Antonelli, who currently leads Russell by nine points after consecutive victories in China and Japan. Mansell underscored the necessity of focus and luck in the long season ahead.
