Newcastle Faces Tough Decisions as Gordon, Tonali, and Livramento Eye Summer Moves

There is an expectation at Newcastle United that Anthony Gordon would be keen on a move away this summer. The England international has emerged as a top target for Bayern Munich, while Arsenal are also interested in him. Gordon is one of several big-name players who could leave Newcastle, with clubs circling over Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento as well. Although the winger has not formally requested a transfer, he could be on the move if the Magpies receive a substantial offer. Liverpool almost signed Gordon in the summer of 2024, but it remains uncertain if they will revive their interest. Newcastle is in a strong negotiating position over Tonali, who is contracted until 2029 with an option for another year, as well as Gordon, who is under contract until 2030. Ideally, Newcastle would like to retain both players, but they have openly stated the need to "trade" this summer to facilitate a rebuild of the first-team squad. Tonali has attracted interest from multiple suitors, while Manchester City is keen on Livramento. With only two years left on his contract, the full-back becomes a pressing concern for Newcastle. While none of the players have officially asked to leave, there is a general understanding that one, two, or all three may seek a new challenge. Sky Sports News' North East correspondent Keith Downie notes that there is a real chance Gordon could depart this summer, especially with the lack of Champions League football. Newcastle commanded a record fee for Alexander Isak last summer and would expect a similar outlay for Gordon, potentially around £75m-£80m. This financial freedom could allow them to invest in the market, providing much-needed funds for manager Eddie Howe or a potential successor.
