Nat Sciver-Brunt Set for T20 World Cup Return, But Bowling Remains Uncertain

England's head coach Charlotte Edwards confirmed that captain Nat Sciver-Brunt is "ready to go" for the upcoming T20 World Cup, although it appears she will not take to the bowling crease. Sciver-Brunt, who has been sidelined due to a calf injury sustained while playing for The Blaze in April, missed the ODI and T20I series against New Zealand and three T20 matches against India this summer. The 33-year-old all-rounder is expected to make her return as a specialist batter, slotting into the No 3 position for England's World Cup opener against Sri Lanka at Edgbaston on June 12. Edwards praised Sciver-Brunt's readiness, stating: "It is obviously really good for us that Nat is coming back into the team and hitting the ball well." "She probably won't bowl but her batting is something that she is best in the world at." Sciver-Brunt has nearly 3,000 T20 international runs in 137 matches, including 18 fifties. Edwards emphasized the importance of Sciver-Brunt batting in her preferred position, indicating her success in global franchises. In Sciver-Brunt's absence, Charlie Dean led the team, guiding them to a T20I series victory over New Zealand and a comeback win against India. Edwards commended Dean's leadership growth, stating: "I have been so impressed. How she has dealt with it all and grown as a person." Dean reflected on her temporary captaincy, expressing confidence for potential future leadership roles during the World Cup. "I feel I have learnt a huge deal about myself." The Women's T20 World Cup runs from June 12 to July 5, with all matches available live on Sky Sports.
