Myles Garrett Joins Los Angeles Rams in Shocking Trade from Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns have finalized a significant trade, sending two-time defensive player of the year Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams. This deal, pending Garrett's physical examination, sees the Browns receiving a 2027 first-round pick and pass rusher Jared Verse in exchange. Garrett, who set the NFL record for single-season sacks with 23 in his last campaign, had previously requested a trade but quelled rumors by signing a four-year, $160 million extension in 2025, with over $122 million guaranteed. Despite his individual success, the Browns struggled last season, finishing 5-12 and ending up in fourth place in the NFC North for the second consecutive year. This marks the seventh time in Garrett's nine seasons that the franchise has missed the playoffs. Speculation regarding Garrett's future intensified when he skipped the Browns' voluntary off-season training session and did not meet with new head coach Todd Monken, who took over from Kevin Stefanski earlier this year. To facilitate the trade, the Browns restructured Garrett's contract, deferring $29 million in bonus payments to September, although they will incur a $40 million hit from his contract over the next two years. This trade concludes a nine-year tenure for Garrett, who was drafted as the No. 1 pick by the Browns in 2017. He will now bolster a Rams team that finished just one game shy of the Super Bowl last season and has a strong playoff pedigree under head coach Sean McVay.
