Mo Hunt Reflects on Injury and England's Dominance in Women's Rugby

Mo Hunt entered this season riding high after helping England secure a second World Cup medal by defeating Canada in September. As the scrum-half for Gloucester-Hartpury, she aimed for a fourth consecutive Premiership Women’s Rugby title, having led her team to a home semi-final before the league paused for the Women’s Six Nations. However, her season abruptly ended due to a knee injury sustained during England's opener against Ireland, which required three months of recovery. Hunt expressed her emotional struggle with the situation, stating, "I don’t know if I have processed it properly yet." Despite her injury, she remains a devoted fan, celebrating as the Red Roses clinched their eighth consecutive Six Nations title and fifth grand slam by defeating France in Bordeaux. She praised her teammate Lucy Packer, who took her place in the starting lineup, emphasizing their competitive yet supportive relationship. Watching the grand-slam decider alongside her teammate Zoe Stratford, Hunt reflected on the intense rivalry with France, noting, "Everybody gets up for playing England, everyone hates us don’t they?" Despite Hunt's absence, England showcased resilience, adapting to the loss of over ten players, and she believes that Gloucester can draw inspiration from this. She highlighted the club's depth, stating, "When people aren’t available there are people waiting in the wings that are ready to take an opportunity." Looking ahead, Hunt is focused on her recovery, eyeing potential participation in England’s WXV fixtures in September and October, as well as the inaugural women’s British and Irish Lions tour to New Zealand in 2027. "I am really enjoying my rugby," she concluded, expressing her determination to return to the pitch.
