Max Verstappen has disclosed that Red Bull Racing is engaged in discussions with the FIA regarding their engine performance after being recognized as the top power unit manufacturer under the Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities (ADUO) system. This system ranks the 2026 power unit manufacturers, which include Mercedes, Ferrari, Audi, and Honda.

According to a document obtained by Sky Sports News:

• Mercedes is over two percent behind Red Bull, earning one engine upgrade this year.
• Ferrari, Audi, and Honda will receive two upgrades as they are more than four percent adrift.

Notably, as the benchmark manufacturer, Red Bull will not receive any engine upgrades this season. Verstappen expressed surprise at being labeled the best power unit manufacturer, stating, "We were all a bit surprised in the team with that. It never felt like we were, let's say, the best."

In addition to this year's upgrades, Mercedes has the option for an upgrade in 2027, while Ferrari, Audi, and Honda can make two upgrades. Verstappen commented on the team's progress, noting their impressive achievement in developing their own engine, despite initial doubts about their competitiveness.

Regarding upcoming regulations, Verstappen acknowledged the FIA's plans for engine regulation changes over the next two years, expressing hope that adjustments would align more closely with the future direction of the sport.

George Russell of Mercedes remarked that he was not surprised by the ADUO findings, attributing it to the combustion side of the power unit, while Kimi Antonelli, the championship leader, expressed surprise, emphasizing the need for further performance enhancements.

Lewis Hamilton of Ferrari also acknowledged Red Bull's impressive engine development, despite the close competition between the two teams.
