Manchester United Seeks PGMO Review After Controversial 2-2 Draw with Bournemouth

Manchester United plans to file a formal complaint with the head of referees at PGMO following a contentious 2-2 draw against Bournemouth on Friday. The club is particularly incensed over the VAR's failure to award a second penalty when Amad Diallo was brought down in the box by Adrian Truffert. At the time, United led 1-0 due to a penalty converted by Bruno Fernandes. Shortly after the incident, Ryan Christie equalized for Bournemouth, further escalating United's frustration. Michael Carrick, United's manager, expressed disbelief at the sending off of Harry Maguire, who conceded a penalty for a foul on Evanilson, while Truffert's similar challenge on Diallo went unpunished. Junior Kroupi converted the spot-kick for Bournemouth, resulting in United losing two crucial points in their pursuit of a top-five finish. This incident marks another occasion where United has voiced concerns to PGMO regarding VAR decisions this season. The club believes this particular situation cost them what could have been their eighth win in ten Premier League matches, impacting their battle with Aston Villa, Liverpool, and Chelsea for a Champions League spot. Carrick stated, "We should have had another penalty. It's pretty much identical for me, two-hand grab. I can't get my head around it." Fernandes added, "One is rewarded as a penalty, the other one not. I don't understand why VAR doesn't get involved." In contrast, pundit Jamie Redknapp opined that awarding the penalty to Diallo would have been excessively harsh. Reflecting on the overall performance, Carrick noted, "We're in a good place... We could have had more tonight, but it's not the end of the world." He emphasized the team's potential for improvement while remaining optimistic about their position in the league.
