Mako Vunipola Joins Leicester to Boost Pack and Mentor Young Talent

Mako Vunipola, the former England prop, has confirmed his move to Leicester Tigers this summer, aiming to strengthen the team's pack for the upcoming season. At 35, Vunipola, who has earned 79 England caps and participated in three British & Irish Lions tours, currently plays for Vannes in France’s ProD2 but is eager to return to the Premiership. Leicester's head coach, Geoff Parling, expressed enthusiasm about Vunipola’s signing, highlighting his experience and potential impact on the younger players. Parling stated, "He was hungry for the chance to come back to the Prem and finish in the comp he knows best." This move is particularly significant as it addresses the gap left by Nicky Smith’s impending switch to Sale Sharks. In addition to Vunipola, Leicester also welcomes Joel Sclavi, an Argentinian front-row player, to further enhance their front-line options. Vunipola, who spent 13 years at Saracens, aims to mentor Leicester’s academy youngsters, possibly paving the way for a future coaching career. He remarked, "It’s something I would never have envisaged but I am honoured to be part of this prestigious club." In other news, Exeter Chiefs announced the signing of Sam Harris from Bath on a two-year deal, intended to replace the departing Josh Hodge. Meanwhile, Leinster and South Africa face a setback as RG Snyman has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament, likely sidelining him for the remainder of the year. Additionally, the PWR domestic women’s league in England is seeking to expand by inviting teams from Wales, Scotland, and Ireland to join.
