Kasper Schmeichel Faces Career Uncertainty with Shoulder Surgery Ahead

Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel might have played his "last football game" due to required surgery on his shoulder, but he remains determined to fight for his fitness. At 39 years old, the Denmark international last took to the pitch on 22 February and is set to undergo the first of two operations later this month. This setback will see him miss the crucial World Cup play-off semi-final against North Macedonia on 26 March. The former Leicester City keeper, whose contract ends at the season's conclusion, faces a daunting recovery period of up to a year. In a heartfelt statement to CBS Sports, Schmeichel expressed: "I could've potentially played my last football game." "It's a bit of a body bow." "I've been a footballer since the day I was born. It's devastating." He added that receiving the news about the potential end of his career was tough to process, stating, "By the time I could get back fit I could be plus 40." Despite the grim prognosis, Schmeichel remains resolute: "I'm going to give it everything I can to see if I can get back. It would be probably one of the greatest feats of my career if I could ever get back from an injury like this. I'm going to fight, I'm going to try everything I can. I'm going to do the rehab."
