Jos Buttler Eyes England Comeback After T20 World Cup Setback

Jos Buttler reflects on his disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup, admitting he had a “poor tournament” but remains hopeful about his future with England. The 35-year-old batsman managed only 87 runs in eight innings as England reached the semi-finals, a stark contrast to his past successes, including the 2019 ODI World Cup victory and the T20 triumph in 2020. Buttler acknowledges that his international career is now in the hands of the selectors, stating, “I certainly have ambitions (to play for England again), but no longer being a captain, I am not a selector and whatever, so what will be, will be.” He is currently on a central contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). In a recent episode of his podcast, For the Love of Cricket with Stuart Broad, Buttler discussed his plans moving forward. He is set to play for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League and has taken time away from cricket to reset with his family in the French mountains. He described the break as “refreshing,” helping him to step back from the game and reflect on what is important for his cricketing future. Buttler expressed that despite the setbacks, he has been playing some of the best cricket of his career in recent years and is ready to return to form. He emphasized the need for patience and understanding, noting, “For all your best intentions and hard work and efforts to perform, it just didn’t work, and sometimes that is OK as well.” As he begins his journey back into cricket, he remains optimistic about regaining his best performance.
